Sequences & Narratives

Tuesday, 9th December 2008

Towards the end of my time at art college in Kassel/Germany I was drawing a lot in order to improve my university entrance portfolio. So I began experimenting with drawn narratives and sequences. Although at the time I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing, looking back now—after 2 years at university—I find these pieces rather intriguing. The drawing itself of course is improvable but the narrative nature still makes me smile. The stories are as simple or as complicated as the narrative that the viewer likes to read into the gutter. An old man is losing his hat and a mouse runs through the ink it has been drawn in. Other images have a clear theme going on: pressure in all forms whether psychological or physical. And last but not least a motion study of a classic ‘running bomb’ performance. Still quite inspirational to think further.

Handmade

Wednesday, 8th June 2005

It seems like at art college in Kassel/Germany I developed almost a drawing fetish for the human hand. Not surprising since this is the only object that is immediately around when you fancy some spontaneous life drawing. Here are some examples of how my left hand helped me to train my right side of the brain. I’d like to draw special attention to the rather laterally related ‘bar(e)foot)’. What a pun.

Transformations

Transformations, merging things into each other is a nice play of thoughts for example during lengthy bus journeys.
