Infographic: A New Model for Government

Thursday, 8th July 2010

Delib is a digital democracy company. They help organisations to use the internet to connect people with decision making. This is achieved through digital democracy apps which enable governments to listen to peoples’ opinions and help citizens to make their voices heard (for example the Your Freedom initiative created by Delib). The infographic I designed for Delib shows their vision of government as a platform using apps to connect people more directly to the decision-making process in a participative democracy model.

Art School Cliché Spotting

Tuesday, 8th June 2010

A tongue-in-cheek take on stereotypical art and design school clichés as seen at degree shows. I designed and coded this web app in collaboration with my friend and colleague Barnaby for the Open Design School of which I’m a member.

The web app can be used with an iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It allows you to tick off clichés in a list as you go through an art and design summer show. A cliché ranking is calculated based on the average cliché count per visitor. The website www.clichespotting.com displays the top 10 cliché art schools and the most spotted clichés in a leader table. In addition to this it provides an overview over the degree shows currently running and the ones coming up.

The website and interface design is intentionally referencing many of the clichés to add to the ironic nature of the project. It uses CSS3 and is based on the 960 Grid System. The typography is achieved thanks to the beautiful open source font by the League of Movable Type.

User Centred Design

Friday, 28th May 2010

This is an information graphic poster illustrating the underlying lifecycle, methods, principles and techniques in a user centred design process where the visual part is only the tip of the iceberg. It was created as a personal project during my time at City ID in Bristol. I also designed a microsite to go with it. You can download the poster for free from there or get a printed copy when you make a donation towards the printing costs. Any excess goes towards my education.

The website is hand coded CSS3 beauty and was another experiment as well as a learning experience in using progressive enhancement techniques to make a website beautiful and usable. It was also a perfect excuse to use the fantastic and highly recommended open source font Titillium.
